Pune Vedh Report

Institute of Psychological Health (IPH)’s 5th Career perspectives Conference was conducted at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium, Kothrud Pune on 12th September and 13th September 2015.
The theme of 5th Pune Vedh was “Chhandanand”
On the first day two guests were Padmashri Jadav Payeng and Mr. Sachin Gaokar.
v Padmashri Jadav Payeng hails from Assam where Brahmaputra is creating havoc every year due to floods.  It has many deserted islands between the course of river.  Mr. Jadav Payeng “ Forest Man of India” has converted 1400 acres of desert land in to a jungle and has planted 110 varieties of trees which are countless. Due to his efforts of conservation of forest he has been awarded Padmashri by Government of India. He narrated his story which was illustrated by various short films and news reports on him. He received a standing ovation from the audience.
v The second guest of honor was Mr. Sachin Gaokar who works for IPH, had decided to celebrate IPH’s 25th year celebration by travelling 14000 KM distance in 25 states of India for spreading mental health awareness in India in every state. He narrated his experiences and also presented one documentary which was applauded by the audience.
The second day was packed with interviews and performances of seven guests.
v The first guest of honor for the day was Ms. Madhugandha Kulkarni who is a famous writer, producer and an Actor in Marathi drama and Marathi serials.  She narrated her story from her childhood to the present and also explained her various experiences in her journey of becoming actor, story writer followed by novels, drama, serials and movies. Her journey was exemplary and inspiring.
v The second guest of honor was Mr.Vicky Roy, world renowned photographer. Due to poverty and torture faced at early age, he left his home at his tender age of 11 and reached to Delhi and stayed at Delhi Railway station. Then he got shelter under Salamwala trust where he got support from the trust to learn the photography. Then there was no looking back. He learnt photography from a British Photographer. He was selected in 4 photographers, who photographed reconstruction work of World trade centre being constructed at New York.  His hardships and his courage of converting opportunities in to success was very inspiring.
v The third guest of honor was Bhashaprapbhu Mr. Sanket Limaye who is working as Language Officer at Saraswat Bank knows almost 19 languages from India and other countries. He explained various words which are common and have travelled from other languages. He told us that almost 5600 words have travelled from Farasi language in Marathi.  He narrated various examples and words from various language as well recited some Marathi/hindi songs and their original songs in  other languages. His performance was very entertaining.
v In the fourth session we met Sachin Sanghe, Electornics & telecommunication Engineer from Bangalore.  He displayed his art of Chalkruthi which is a chalk carving art. His art has been appreciated by Mr. Sachin Tendulkar and Mr. Amitabh Bachhan who also follows Sachin on Twitter.  He showed us pictures of all his chalkruthis and also demonstrated his skills live during the programme.

v The other guest was Ms. Nilima Kadhe who is founder and principal of Thane School of Art. She has balanced her career as painter and Bharatnatyam dancer. She explained the common things between the painting and dancing and explained that both the arts are complimenting each other in many ways.

v The last session was having rocking performances by renowned flute player Mr. Amar Oak and famous guitarist  Mr. Madhur Padwal who can play almost 30 instruments.  Both of them explained the process and demonstrated fusion music which was appreciated by the audience by giving them a standing ovation.
Dr. Anand Nadkarni concluded the VEDH seminar and announced the theme of next Pune Vedh as  “ Maksad” i.e. Hetu in Marathi.

7th Vardhapan din of  Vidyadaan Sahayyak Mandal,  Thane.


VSM students from various places of Maharashtra had gathered today at Sahyog Mandir Hall at 1 pm. They were asked to introduce themselves. Then they were asked to give a name of a person who inspires them and why ?

The main program started at 3.30 . Pankaj Chavan and Kavita Bidwe did the compeering of the program.

1)    Eight students under the guidance of Jyoti Deshkar sang ‘Tu budhdhi de’.


2)   Bhau Nanivadekar gave the overview of VSM activities in the last year.

Now VSM has nearly 170 students pursuing BA, BCOM, Medical, Engineering,Nursing etc. So far seventy students have completed studies with the help of VSM . Last year 3rd branch of VSM was opened at Borivali and 4th branch was opened at Pune. VSM used 94% of its funds for its students.
           

            ‘Caring friends’ organization has given a donation of twenty lakhs to VSM .

       3)  Karyakarta Manogat - Swati Agate shared the views of Karyakartas or volunteers.
She told that they spend their own money to collect donations. Number of volunteers keep on increasing with the word of mouth.
Some of the functions of volunteers are – Admission, account keeping, hostel management,conducting various workshops and competitions , English language improvement ,help desk,library,website updation,ahwaal collection and bulletin. Some volunteers take the role of palak karyakarta where student is given one palak according to his branch of study and interests.

4)    Vandana Shirke gave a Vote of thanks .

5)    Vidyarthi Manogat -  3 students shared their views about VSM.

Vishal Raikar – Palya of Nivedita Joshi who is 2nd year engineering student told that student activity of ‘Be Frank’ helped him a lot to get information about various subjects. Students get not only funds but also various skills like English speaking, communication , interview techniques etc.

Sayli Kadam – She is studying in 3rd year of computer diploma. She feels that programs like ‘Be Frank’ and ‘Vividh gundarshan’ motivate them to develop and display new skills. Her whole family is motivated by VSM , even her father is completing his graduation.

Alfiyaaz Jawale -  Due to various reasons she failed in 12th std. and was very much depressed after that. But her palak Nilima Mehta and Swati Agte gave her support and arranged for her medical help. She then comlpeted a computer course.
When she appeared for Dept . of Post exam Geeta Shah of VSM accompanied her and helped her to remain calm. She has learned now that not only destination but efforts are equally  important .

6)    Meenatai patankar purskar’  were given thereafter. Suhasini Thakur gave information about these students.

Sewavrati - Diksha Dinde ( Collecting donations for disabled, helping earthquake victims of Nepal)

Sewavrati  -  Vaibhav Sonawane ( conducting workshop for Dr.Kolhe and RTI)

Sewadharmi – Rohit Devkar (conducts free hobby classes and 10th ,12th classes)

Sewadharmi –Madhuri Mengal ( Cleanliness drive,free English teaching to students)

Sewabhavi -  Nilesh Harad ( Cleanliness drive, distribution of sweets to adiwasis during Diwali)

7)    Vishesh Kautuk – Special prizes
Anjali Pednekar announced these prizes and mentioned special achievements of these students.

Pankaj Chavan – Boy from small village Khed, he has won 14 prizes during the year in Streetplay, Drama ,elocution,debate etc.

Darshana Saple - Studying in Thakur college of engineering , she secured 9.55
percentile and is the holder of Sir Dorabjee Tata scholarship.

Sairam Majgaokar – In C.S. foundation course entrance exam he secured 9th
rank.

8)    Adarsh Palak puraskar – (Ideal Parent)  Chitralekha Dinde 

Anita Mehendale introduced Chitralekha Dinde  who is mother of Diksha Dinde.
Diksha is disabled from birth (now her disability is 84%). She carries Diksha everywhere strapped on her 2 wheeler and waits outside for her. Diksha completed her B.Com. with 70% marks and is now doing MA in history. She received best cadet award during UPSC preparatory course.

9)    Dhanashree Ketkar introduced well known writer Dr. Anil Awachat who was the chief guest of the function. He is doctor by education, writer, journalist, editor by profession , trusty of Muktangan Vyasanmukti Kendra, he is also fond of drawing, photography, origami, woodcarving, flute etc

10) Geeta Shah interviewed  Dr. Anil Awchat. He said that we should allow our children to lead their life by their choice, but not at the cost of others. He also said that he never advises anyone, but children should learn how to accept the defeat and insult gracefully and  how to control one’s anger. He sang melodious bhajan in the end.

11) Veglya watecha shodh – searching new frontiers .

From the age of 7 he started writing,participating in elocution . When Subodh Jathar met him 2 years back he started giving him books and discussing with him.
He wants to be political writer/analyst to be able to influence the whole world.

Namrata lost her husband and has 2 kids . She has done BA but was unable to get good job. So she decided to pursue nursing. Jyoti met her in-laws and children also and gave a lot of support and encouragement.

Varsha Joshi(Palak) and Suraj Telangi(ward)
To become collector was his childhood dream. He wants to become IAS officer. He feels that to change the system one has to be part of it. He said system is static but dynamic people(like me) can change it. He is doing MA in JNU. He keeps on reading for 14 hours , skips lunch to avoid feeling sleepy. Varsha keeps on telling him about good manners , cleanliness etc. so that the world can not say bad things about him.

12) Documentary made by Laukik Joshi on Journey of VSM was shown.

13) Rahul Bhalke on behalf of students who have passed out from VSM, handed
      over  Krutadnyata Nidhi’ to VSM (Bhau Nanivadekar) as a token of gratitude.

14) Past students who conduct ‘Be Frank’ namely Karan Pardesi, Anand Sapate,
      Prathmesh Tayade and Aniket Raut were given special prizes.

The program concluded with ‘Vande Mataram’ sung by students.

Report on Niwasi Shibir held at Tapobhumi,  Naik Udyan, Yeoor on 1st and 2nd May 2015 by Vidyadaan Sahayyak Mandal, Thane

Number of students present: 53

Organizing karyakartas: 
Abhay  Gadiyar, Sandeep Bhagwat, Ranjana Kulkarni

Great support from other karyakarta’s like Arun Lalit, Deepak Joshi, Arun Joshi, Mahesh Dhumale, Bina Padwal, Sujata Thakur, Nivedita Joshi, Vandana Shirke, Suparna Belgaonkar, Dr. Kamat, Prerana Madigiri, Vishakha Katre, Dipti Govekar.


Helping hands : approx.6 ex vsm students and karyakartas were assigned various types of work.It is important to mention here the special anytime help given by Mr. Gopal Parab, friend of Arun Lalit. Yeoor is a remote place and not connected properly. Two days he willingly solved the problem of transport of food , goods and public.

Food arrangement : Morning and evening  tea and snacks and  simple but tasty lunch with special rice Bhakari was served.

Residential arrangement was done at Pandit school .

Program Details :

Two days program was conducted by AMRUT YATRA team of Naveen Kale in two sessions each day.

First Day (1st May 2015)

Ranjana kulkarni welcomed all and started with Shabari and Sudama's stories to convey that whatever is offered with love is valuable .She further told that Abhay and his  team had worked day and night  with love to organise this shibir for students and appealed Students to respect food and not to waste it. This was so well received that there was zero wastage of food.

Then Bhau spoke about the importance of shrama sanskar in life giving message of  Baba Amte.

Navin started with his Introduction and asked students to introduce with each one 's goal in life. 

Session I :  Shailaja Gokhale who has published many books  on Manasik Arogya like "Mulagi vayat yetana,kallya umaltat" and at presently handling children from ashram shala or Dongari balsudhar gruha etc. She began with a game where in pair of students should discuss with each other and tell partner's good and bad points . In this game children were open to tell their mind status.  Getting angry fast or hot temperament  was observed to be very common .On this line she spoke at length and softly but convincingly following points.

1) Mind and health are interconnected.
2) Proper exercise not only increases the physical strength but also mental.
3)She gave many tips  to control anger like counting of numbers, think  before reacting.
Morning on the bed itself and at night think of your behavior at different time .
4) Try to accept people around as nobody is very good or very bad ; only circumstance matters. So maintain friendship and relationships. 
5)  Keep your face smiling and pleasant to improve your personality.
6) For girls she gave earnest Advice to keep analytical mind while developing friendship and to be strong to react if it is necessary.

Next speaker Ashay Mahajan 's presentation was short but sweet. He narrated his own story. He was a very playful student in school and in college .when he got just 56% marks.   He was sincere and consistent in his efforts to achive his goal ; CA. This path was not very smooth .He passed CA at 14th attempt; but this qualification helped a lot to grow his business .He also told his passion of sports helped to concentrate on whatever he does and overcome the frustration with strong mind. The points he discussed are really appealing to students and are as follows :

1) Understand your passion. and If you select the career accordingly.  Success is yours; but full devotion is required. Here he gave the example of Sachin Tendulkar and Kambali and marked Sachin' sucess to his consistent efforts, displined mind.
 2) All may not be lucky enough to get job of your interest; in that case he said that his own experience tells that if you persue your passion side by side keeps you happy. Ashay started playing tennis at the age of 34 and now every day he is on tennis courts;  wherever he may be.( in India or out of).
3) Ashay further said that ups and downs are always there but you should not leave line of education u had selected with examples of  his own and Sachin. Like as in Vedh Vilas Sawant said he emphasised to work 10,000 hrs to get success

Session II
After lunch Navin conducted an  advertisement competition. Seven groups were formed and each group was given a product's name like oxygen cylender, flying chatai, bandwale, dhotar, andhar karnara bulb, modak etc.

All the performance s were very nice showing intelligence,  creativity and team work.Students imagination was wonderful.

The last lecture of the day was by Kaustubh Bhagat on " nisargachya sanidhyat" while working he persuaded his hobby and collected the information and travelled a lot for study. His presentation was with wonderful slides prepared by him. He has covered world of :

1 plants
2 Birds
3 Mashrooms, yeast
4 Animals...all types observed in various jungles in Maharashtra
.
Kaustubh was explaining every details of the slide giving scientific reasoning of the habitat and it s association with others to maintain environment of jungle . Students were happy , surprised and curious to know many things and it was a very long interactive lecture.

The day program ended at 6 p.m as per shedule with tea and  snacks.


The students then shifted to Pandit Prathamik Shala. The students were segregated to two buildings meant for boys and girls. The boys section was controlled by Joshis; Deepak and Arun. The ladies section was controlled by Suparna Belgaonkar, Nivedita Joshi and Vandana Shirke.

Day II (2nd May 2015)

The students got up from 4 am onwards to make up for shortage of toilet accommodation. The shramsankar shibir was conducted under guidance of Captain Gautam, Sujata Thakur, Anjali Barwe, Prerana Madigeri and volunteers from a group referred by Mr Shyam Ghate. The students came hungry and tired. They were treated to fresh kandepohe and tea.

Second  day of the Shibir was mainly devoted to convey ‘How people over come the problems in life. In other words we need not murmur about small problems. But to learn to overcome them.

Really the session started with technical difficulties like not getting proper ground, or electrical connections etc. but (without that) the whole day program was handled properly by Mr. Navin. According to him problem become smaller if you become bigger than it. He explained it with story of Hanuman and Dronagiri. Morning there was session titled “akshache khamb” where  he uncovered the lives of four inspiring personalities. Who willingly chose to live for some noble cause of service to mankind or poor, namely –

Ocello Mecardy  Story of black American lady who rose form a laundry staff to become ambassador of USA

Next speaker  was 80 years old Ratnakar Mahajan  retired person from Air-India. He covered right from hang glider to satellite 250 years of aviation history using nicely prepared pictorial boards. He discussed passionately the very details of the each picture but the session being too lengthy and in hot Sun, many children were not attentive. However the enthusiastic presentation of Mahajan will definitely motivate karyakartas
.
He was followed by Anil Hardikar who is a T.V serial dialogue writer for aabhalmaya. He shared his experiences in T.V serial program. The Program is generally for 25 episodes. Every episode is of generally 20-22 Minutes and how a Friday episode ends to maintain curiosity of viewers etc. He created a story by inputs from students that helped to identify talented students named Vijayalaxmi Pattewar, Pankaj Bhonsale, Nidhi Varavadekar and Sakshi Shinde.

After lunch, session started with Orogami by Aishwarya Mahajan. She showed many items. Prepared only by number of fields from a single paper. She demonstrated the sequence of folds to prepare flying birds and everyday could experience it doing flying bird from a given paper by profession

She was followed by Payal Bhosekar who travelled alone to Thailand and Cambodia shared her experiences and gave many tips. She said when you are alone you are always more alert and learn many more things. One becomes stronger mentally while taking such bold step one should take dear and near one, in confidence, always keep them informed about your travelling plan and location for your safety.

The last session was the most memorable  Krushnakant Mane is an outstanding personality. He is  not only wizard in computer or IT field but totally committed to social work. He is blind but surpassing any normal person in knowledge, or activities.  Initially his parents helped him to overcome this blindness and gave him confidence . But further he developed himself to the level of the post like professor in IIT  Powai. His laptop and phone talks for him and he naturally, easily handles like any other normal person he teaches students of IIT, an intelligent cream of society but keep in mind poor students from his native place , how to reach this facility of there  two gadgets like phone and computer in their daily work or farming he said. You should be proud of your mother tongue but be practical or feasible when you want to learn the technology.

He said this in context of development of software. He is very lively person fond of reading, trekking, singing etc. His observation sense (without eye sight) is fantastic. He never forgets to name his mentor from Homi Bhabha Science centre who encouraged him to develop software. He is a founder member of Digital Freedom Foundation. According to him. knowledge ideas are nature’s gift share them, free of charge. To explain this she shared one story of ward boy who was knowing the post operation recovery stages of a patient due to his experience and when doctors were not giving assurance of recovery of a patient ward boy said “Saheb he will recover in 24 hours”. A good news in that Krushnakant accepted Bharat Kadam, one of the VSM student in his project work.

Conclusion: Try to select your passion oriented work. If is not possible along with you job follow your passion.
